The High School Completion Program

An Alternative Way to Earn Your Diploma is through the NEKLS High School Completion Program. This allows students to get a diploma through a state high school while learning at their own pace.

“When I first came here, my goal was to get my high school diploma. I was very shy and scared. It was a new experience for me, and I was afraid of failing. Within weeks of my first visit, I started to come out of my shell I achieved goals I didn’t even know I had yet…I was challenged, but I was no longer scared. My goals were their goals.

I got the one-on-one help I needed as well as the individual time to work on my assignments. Although I came to NEKLS to get my diploma, I left with much more. I left with a support system… There were times I wanted to give up. The staff at NEKLS always knew just what to say to encourage me to push through. Even after I achieved my diploma, I spent many hours at the center following my enrollment at CCV…

I wanted some kind of office job, and I needed skills. I thought, what better place to volunteer than NEKLS? I answered phones, copied and scanned papers, and got to meet and interact with the public. (That experience) helped me attain my job at Lyndon Furniture as a  receptionist. Without NEKLS, I wouldn’t be in the place I am today.”

The High School Completion Program (HSCP) is a collaboration with local high schools. The program provides a path to a high school diploma for adults when a conventional high school education or specific classes have proven unsuccessful. Program participants include both those who have left school and students who remain enrolled in their partnering high school.

INDIVIDUAL GRADUATION PLAN – Each plan is as unique as the student for whom it’s written.

The HSCP Plan Manager and the student work closely together to identify the student’s long-range personal and career goals. They then develop an education plan that offers engaging, effective and relevant learning experiences that address these student goals while at the same time satisfying the high school’s graduation requirements.

“I’m 26 and dropped out of high school for reasons that seem pretty foolish now, but at the time made sense to my teenage mind.

I was surprised to learn there were programs like NEKLS’s High School Completion that could help me get an actual diploma. I was nervous when I signed up – it had been a long time since I’d been in school, and I was sure I wasn’t going to do well.

With the help of everyone I’ve worked with at NEKLS, I did a lot better than I ever expected. Everyone is very friendly and supportive. They went above and beyond what they had to do to make sure I stayed on track. They helped me with my math, which was always my weak area – and really helped improve my punctuation!

They helped me connect with a college and walked me through getting set up for financial aid. They even helped me with a gym membership, which is really important to me since I’ve always struggled with fitness. Now I’m starting a new job and will take college classes online. My goal is to work in IT. I couldn’t have done this without NEKLS. I feel better than I ever have.”
